About The Pogues

The Pogues were an Irish-British Celtic punk / folk band, active since the early 1980s. The original name of the band was “Pogue Mahone” (meaning “kiss my arse” in Gaelic).
They split in the mid-1990s but reformed in 2001. Phil Chevron died in 2013. According to Shane MacGowan, The Pogues split again after a final show in August 2014. Shane MacGowan passed away on 30 November 2023, aged 65, following a battle with encephalitis.
